It’s All About . . . Boxes of Cereal?

At Catholic Charities Diocese of Kalamazoo we are blessed to do God’s work and care for the most vulnerable in our community.  We are grateful to our staff, volunteers and  supporters who make an effort to improve the lives of homeless teens, pregnant teens, mothers – families that need our resources to get their lives back on track.  Each year, we reach literally thousands of people in need and we would be unable to do so without your support (time and talents), prayers, and donations (treasure).

“There is no better way to express our gratitude than to share a heartfelt thank you made by a client,” says Jeannine Boehm, Volunteer Coordinator for Caring Network.   “It was one of those comments that remind you that something so simple is truly meaningful.”

Hackett Catholic Central High School (HCC) sponsors Caring Network families every Thanksgiving, adopting each family to provide not only “needs” but also a few “wants,” and bringing joy to each family member.  They are one of dozens of individuals, groups, or businesses who do so each year and we were thrilled to have more than 70 families adopted in 2012!  The HCC students and their families provide a Thanksgiving meal, a Christmas meal, Christmas presents, and additional goodies to make both holidays special.  After receiving her generous and thoughtful basket, one of our clients called to personally thank the donors and make sure the HCC students and families knew her children were overjoyed . . . really ecstatic at the choices of food they had provided.

“The kids keep going to the cupboards and rearranging the boxes of cereal. The children wanted to open everything and sample a little bit of everything because they couldn’t believe they had choices to eat.”

untitledIt seems the family had never had more than one box of cereal (if that) in the house!  It was such a simple gift, but it touched the entire family and they were blessed through it.  We realize our donors have a choice to donate to other agencies, but we’re thankful you have helped us take care of our neighbors; making Catholic Charities your agency  through your prayers and donations of time, talent and treasure . . . and yes, boxes of cereal!

We wish you a Merry Christmas and a 2013 full of Blessings.
